Don't Stay Sober during the Holiday's: Outpatient Drug Treatment is NOT for Everyone |
Posted: December 14, 2012 |
During the holiday season, thousands of articles and blogs are created about how to remain sober during the holidays if you just completed drug rehab or drug treatment. Given that the majority of recovering addicts and alcoholics, especially those within their first year of sobriety and having just completed an outpatient or inpatient drug treatment or drug rehab program, have a difficult time following directions, I thought I might write a blog about not staying sober in hopes that the newly graduated addict or alcoholic would do the opposite! As a part of outpatient drug treatment Florida, Sober Living Outpatient, Delray Beach, Florida, recommends that individuals:
Do individuals in early recovery or attending outpatient drug rehab in Florida listen to these suggestions and implement them? Absolutely and completely NOT! Why? The answer is so complicated, causes great distress and makes no sense to a normal individual who is not in need of drug rehab, given that positive results will follow from merely following directions. Wow! Follow the directions and obtain the desired result. What a concept! An example of the frustration is as follows: A thousand individuals suffering from stage four cancers get together for a seminar. A man stands in the front of the room and states “I have the cure for your cancer, it is 100% proven and will cure your disease. All you have to do is come to the front of the room right now and I will hand you the cure.” What happens? Likely, everyone in the room will trounce each other to get to the front of the room. Conversely, a thousand individuals suffering from alcoholism and drug dependence get together for a seminar and a man stands in front of the room and states “I have the cure for your alcoholism and drug dependence, it is 100% proven and will cure your disease. All you have to do is come to the front of the room right now and I will hand you the cure.” What happens? Likely, everyone in the room will stay in their chair, look at each other, and will state “thanks, but I need to think about it and I’ll get back to you tomorrow!” Insanity? Therefore, in hopes that people who are in outpatient drug rehab in Florida will act as predicted above, I have decided to develop a list of ways not to remain sober during the holiday. Reverse psychology! So, fellow drug addicts and alcoholics please follow the following list (or not!):
The most important part of these suggestions is to don’t, under any circumstance enjoy you. Even though love, companionship, gratitude, humility, spirituality and friendship are all benefits derived from treatment and recovery from drugs and alcohol, forget it, it makes too much sense. Additionally, if you are a loved one needs help, please don’t call Sober Living Outpatient at 561-272-9404 and don’t visit http://www.soberlivingoutpatient.com/.
